"Gary Hayes was a Farm boy. He had a lot of brothers, but I only remember him having one sister, Sandra. He was a rough guy, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. I didn’t see him much after school. I saw him again at a funeral. He preached the funeral. That was the first time I knew he was a preacher. He was married and had children or a child. He preached at several churches in this area. I believed he died of a heart attack. He seemed so happy the times I saw him after we graduated."

Gary Hayes became a wonderful minister and was minister and friend to my best friend, Linda Williams Dennis, for several years. He visited me in the hospital when I had my second son, Brad, and that is when I realized he was a minister. He had a way about him that was very special and was truly a man of God. Gary was loved by everyone he touched and truly had a gift of being able to minister to others.
